- Once made of highly polished wood, most skis are now made of plastics, polyurethane foam, and other materials.
- Traditional competitive skiing is comprised of four events, two of which are known as Alpine events (downhill and slalom).

- Turning will cause a loss of speed. Stay in a straight line as long as possible!
- Watch out for different kinds of snow on the course. Some types of snow may prevent acceleration!
- On each course, find the optimal path down the mountain to shave off precious seconds.
